Charging the Volt. Yep, there's an app for that. iPhone

The Chevrolet Volt isn't the only innovative piece of mobile technology on the horizon — the first ever OnStar® Mobile Applications will also be available alongside the vehicle.

With OnStar Mobile Apps you'll be able to remotely unlock doors, monitor battery charge, check your electric and total range, warm up or cool down the interior, even flash the lights and honk the horn to help find the car in a parking lot. It will also send you a text or email if your Volt is unplugged. All in real-time. All on your phone.

The real value of this app, however, isn't what it can do for the Volt — it's what it can do for you. Some utility companies recommend charging during off-peak hours such as overnight and may even offer incentives for customers who do. The OnStar Mobile app can help save you money by delaying the Volt's charge to a grid-friendly time.

If you don't have a smart phone, all of the app's features can also be accessed online or through your phone's mobile browser. This also allows you to set email or text notifications so your Volt can tell you when it's fully charged. Plus you can check monthly diagnostic reports at any time.
